Below you'll notice letters before and after the registered names of our girls. We spend our summer months involved in running our dogs in events called Hunt Tests. With each pass or qualifying score we begin earning those letters (titles) and bring home ribbons. With enough passes comes a invitation to run the Master Nationals.
We were introduced in 2014 to the world of Hunt Tests when Sugar was in training at Flatlander Kennels. They recognized her talent soon after we dropped her off. We went to watch her and we enjoyed it very much! The following year I began running in the lower stakes. Now I handle the girls myself at any level and enjoy competing. We average nearly 30 tests a year and have enjoyed a 85% +\- success rate. In the Fall of 2021 ran our first Master National. You could say I'm hooked!
Since beginning to run at the Finished level we have produced 5 HRCH's as well as a 2 Master Hunters.
We also recognized that running Hunt Test, winning ribbons and earning titles would also be a great indicator of intelligence and train-ability of our dogs. I would never dream of buying a dog out of untitled parents again!!!!

The Hunting Retriever Club, Inc. and the United Kennel Club, Inc. are providing a program to develop the hunting retriever to fulfill its intended purpose in life - hunting. These two organizations, working closely together, providing hunters and hunting retrievers a series of actual hunting tests in a controlled environment working toward titles granted by UKC.

American Kennel Club (AKC) also have Hunt Test and we have begun running our Finished dogs. HRCH Whiskey Raider's Sugar, HRCH Big Cottonwood's Just Peachy, HRCH RGD's Rushmore HellOn Wheels "Eva" and recently HRCH Whiskey Raiders Sochi Bear. Sochi earned her AKC Senior Hunter Title going 5/6. More recently Sochi earned her Master Hunter Title going 5/5. She wrapped it up despite the pandemic in June and has qualified for The 2020 Master Nationals. She also qualified and ran the 2021 Master Nationals.
When a dog earns a Qualifying Score (pass) they earn ribbons and points and just like the Hunting Retriever Club (HRC) titles as follows.... also follows their registered name.

We exercised too much caution when we first saw "Eva's" litter. But as luck would have it, we got another chance.

We acquired Peachy the Winter of 2021. She had been started by an Amateur Trainer and He put a solid foundation on her passing 1 of 2 tests. We built on what he started and quickly transitioned to HRC. Peach adapted quickly and by July had earned her HRC Finished Title. We switched it up again and began pursuing her Master Hunter title. We had a few bumps in the road early and decided that a season of actual Duck Hunting would help her. It did!
The benefits of a hunting season we numerous. All those hunts helped Her steadiness and perseverance. She really became a Team Player! AT 47lbs she was occasionally retrieving 13lb geese. Our goals for Peach in 2022 included a trip to the Master National in Oregon. To earn an invitation meant we would need to earn her Master Hunter Title and pass no less than 6 Master Tests. We wrapped up Peach's MH 7/21/22 and I'm very pleased with her performance. She just keeps getting better! She says, "Move over Sochi !" Although we earned her Master Hunter Title, we came up short regarding this year's Master National. We just ran out of time to qualify. Like Sochi, Peachy is quickly becoming a crowd favorite with the Gallery and Judges alike. .Faith is our newest Acquistion and comes with AKC Senior Title in tow. She has quickly transitioned to HRC and went 4/4 to earn her Hunting Retriever Title before the end of June 2022.
We will continue to campaign Faith in 2023. Our first goal will be completing her HRC Finished Title then on to Master Hunter. Faith has an outstanding pedigree with several dogs who are known for produce great dogs. Her Sire was very close to earning his FC & AFC titles. One of the things Grant likes to do is name the dogs. He had a name picked out well before we had her and It's quite fitting! Ember is one of our "Old School" Girls. You only have to look back 2 generations to find Her Grand Sire 2XNAFC 2XCNAFC FC CFC Ebonstar Lean Mac. The lucky streak continues. We dropped her off with one of the top Professional Hunt Test Trainers in the Country January 2021. Of course, we've kept an eye on her progress and we are excited to get her home soon. When I take the reins later this year, she will have a Finished title and running with lots of confidence. This one will be one to watch. 2023 we plan to hit the Master Tests early! Chilli is Our third generation Girl bred right here at BCR. She's from the 2017 Dice/Trouble litter the "Tenacious Ten". Her Father Dice was the very first Grand Hunting Retriever Champion titled by Chris Jobman of Flatlander Kennels Inc. Another offspring is GRHRCH Flatlanders I can't Drive 55 MH "Ticket", We have high hopes for our Chilli Dog! She has a bit of stubbornness but so do I! She earned her Started and Junior titles fairly quick.
We took a break from training her but, once we made the decision to teach her to handle it didn't take all that long! She finished her Hunting Retriever Title in July 2022. We will continue training advanced concepts in hopes of earning her HRCH and Master Titles in 2023.. Chilli has also proved to be a very good mother having whelped two litters. Many of those dogs are already playing their own Hunt Test Games and picking up lots of ducks for their owners. Whelped- 12/22/2017

Dare is a great addition to BCR! She's out of FC AFC Dare to Dream - "Cosmo" & HRCH DW's Wishes Do Come True MH. Cosmo Sired 40 FC AFC's including NAFC FC AFC Carbon Copy of Horn Creek. He was a great producer having in excess of 200 titled offspring. We are happy to have his daughter as part of our breeding program.
Dare settled in nicely here at BCR and is super sweet. She defiantly marches to her own beat and is usually found exploring the property. She blessed us with a very nice litter shortly after arriving and She proved to be a wonderful mother! Her puppies were well cared for and some of the cleanest puppies a first-time mother ever gave us. She is very attentive and loves playing with her puppies and anyone's honestly. She likes everyone that visits and all the girls here at BCR young and old. Dare is not only a sweet dog and very gentle but extremely intelligent and biddable. She doesn't like getting in trouble and takes corrections to heart. Suzie is one of our bigger Girls. She's 70+ and long and lanky. She loves attention when we're on the porch and is eager to please. She will Fetch anything I ask her to. She easily earned her Started title in 2021 and we will be looking for big things from our big girl in 2023 She has multiple NFC, NAFC's, FC's and HOF's such as NAFC FC AFC Cody Cut A Lean Grade, 16' NFC AFC Windy City's Mighty Mouse, '06 NAFC FC AFC Carbon Copy of Horn Creek, 05' NFC AFC Clubmead's Road Warrior. It took close to four years of asking but I finally gave into Shari's requests. Coco is our first Chocolate Lab and I doubt the last!
Her Sire, Choco, is one of the best Chocolate males living right now! In fact, you can count on one hand all the Chocolate FC's living. At 22 Mo's he made the National Derby list. At 26 months became QAA. So, our girl's out of FC AFC Choco Lickity-split & Contenders Crazy Ex-Girlfriend MH. There are numerous FC, AFC as well as 09' NAFC FC AFC Barton Creek's O'Mustad and 2xNAFC 2xCNAFC FC AFC Ebonstar Lean Mac. Coco completed her gun dog training and shortly after passed 4 consecutive HRC tests to earn her Started title. She made a trip to South Dakota the Fall of 2020 and made a big impression flushing and retrieving many Pheasants and again for the 2022 South Dakota Pheasant Opener. She is an inc marking dog with a lot of drive to hunt. Coco has really grown on me after becoming a mother. As concerned as she is with herself, I was pleasantly surprised as she caried very well for her puppies. I have gained a great deal of respect her! She always finds me on the porch for some lovin!
