Sugar has a modest pedigree, but you'd never know it. We really didn't know a whole lot about what to look for when we found her, but boy did we get lucky!
Sugar comes from pointing lines. Her pedigree includes 2001's US Open Pheasant Champion GMPR MHR Rik's Risky Raider (APLA Hall of Fame). Sug is small in stature, weighing in at 55 lbs. What she lacks in size she makes up for with intelligence and her incredible nose. She is built for endurance and has unbelievable drive. She never runs out of "GO" and when you get her out of the truck YOU better be ready to hunt! Sugar's not only a terror in the upland field, catching pheasants out of the air before a year old, she's also a great water dog. There's no water too cold or mark too far! Her ability with multiple marks is incredible weather in a cornfield or slough. She does have an off switch and at the end of the day afield she loves to crawl up in my chair with me to nap. Sugar is now retired!! Whiskey Raiders Sochi Bear "Sochi" was the very first puppy whelped by what has become Big Cottonwood Retrievers. She was born during the Winter Olympics when they were in Russia. She's big, white and very athletic. Even though she lost an eye at 10 weeks of age, you'd never know it. She's the best blind running dog we have, no pun intended!!! She's a real team player, extremely trainable and can go all day.
She's equally at home quartering a CRP field as she is sitting quietly in the goose pit. She even brought home a check from the first and only BDC event we ever entered. She completed her HRC Hunting Retriever Champion title in May of 2019 and her AKC Senior Hunter Title in June. In Sept 2019 began persuit of her Master Hunter Title going 5/5, She is now 7/7 and qualified for the 2020 Master Nationals. She continues to be a crowd favorite at the Hunt Tests and in July 2021 wrapped up qualifing for 2021 Master Nationals. We ran our first Master Nationals in Idaho this past October. We were very close to bringing home a plate. Look out 2022! Sochi has 13 Master passes. Valor was Our beautiful "Old School Girl". She was graceful, fast and sweet!
When we heard about her litter, we immediately knew we would want one of these pups! It's pretty common to find 2XNAFC 2XCNAFC FC CFC Ebonstar Lean Mac in many dogs pedigree but it's usually 5 or 6 generations back. Val is out of 8 X GRHRCH UH McMac Magic Eye's A'smilin MH "O'Malley" & GRHRCH AR King's Magical One MH. O'Malley is directly out of Lean Mac. Which ment we had a Granddaughter of one the best ever! Grant and Valor had a strong bond and when she's in the house there's only one place she wanted to be! Yep, on his lap. Grant and Valor have a perfect record running 7/7. She always wanted to please! Valor blessed us with some amazing puppies with Delta MH, 9X GRHRCH Jet MH MNH HOF and 3X GRHRCH Flash MH QA2 We elected to keep a puppy from her last litter and have named her Big Cottonwoo'd Making Magic call name "Voodoo". She can never replace her momma but it does soften the sting!
