Welcome to BCR!

Howdy, I'm Grant Hatch. I'm pictured here with some of the best girls I've called my own. Three of them are Hunting Retriever Champions as well as Master Hunters.

If you're looking for a health tested proven and titled Labrador Retriever from some of the best known lines in the Country, look no further!

I hope when you're finished visiting this website, you consider one of my puppies. If the timing is right along with a good fit, I hope you have as memorable experience owning a Labrador Retriever as I have!

It's hard to still believe how one little yellow dog changed the course of My life. It began with My son's suggestion after returning to live "The Good Life" here in Nebraska. Garrett said "Dad, why don't you get yourself a dog to hunt with?" and so, our story begins....

Honestly, I didn't really do any research and I bought a puppy from a backyard breeding. You will hear me talk about LUCK a lot. With Sugar it was 100% luck. When we went to pick her up at 49 days the people we bought her from were overjoyed that we still wanted the "naughty one"!

Training began as soon as we got home. I think she trained me more than I trained her. Which would ultimately lead to another life changing event. I worked with her every day in preparation of the coming hunting season. Sugar absolutely loved training! Her drive, stamina, nose, marking and memory were incredible. At 6 mo's of age I had the best hunting dog I could have ever imagined. At the end of Her first season with less than 10 minutes remaining in her first Pheasant season. I watched in disbelief as she chased a rooster 200 yards and caught him out of the air when he set his wings to land. That rooster pheasant is now proudly displayed on the wall.

Unfortunately, like all good things, the season came to an end. While watching a TV show one afternoon (BDC World Championship) They kept talking about a dog named Raider. GMPR-Rik's Risky Raider MH MHR HOF and 2001 U.S. Open Pheasant Champion. as it turned out it was Sugar's Grandsire. SEE? I told you I was lucky!  Eventually Sugar would become our first Hunting Retriever Champion.

Fast forward 3 years and BCR had our first litter of puppies. We had zero experience but found great joy in raising puppies. We even kept the very first one born. At the same time, I decided to send Sugar off to be professionally trained. More about that is available on the training page. Ultimately it would lead to a move to the country where there is plenty of room to raise the puppies that bring joy and smiles to so many families.

I never set out to become a breeder, it found me! It's grown it into a full-time business for me that I take very seriously. BCR have puppies from Alaska to Florida and 39 States between along with British Columbia and Alberta Canada.

BCR caters to Hunting companion homes primarily but have puppies placed in Agility, Law Enforcement, Detection, Service, Dock Diving and Competitive homes. Many are competing on the National Level such as National Derby Field Trial as well as the HRC International Grand Hunt Test and AKC Master National.

I can be found on a regular basis participating at weekend Hunt Tests. If you see me come say hi!
I've really enjoyed running my girls from April until September. Occasionally we run National events like the HRC Grand and AKC Master Nationals. Personally I've titled dogs in both AKC and HRC and enjoy aspects of each club.
So far (and I hope to continue) I have 6 Hunting Retriever Champions and 4 Master Hunters to my credit. Which isn't too shabby given I only first heard of Hunt Tests a dozen years ago.

BCR has come a long way since buying our "Backyard" bred dog and now know the difference.
I've heard from many "Life long" lab owners that their BCR lab is their best yet!

Come experience the difference!

It's fun to see where they all go but keeping up with the map isn't my priority !
